Brookville Lake, IN, 4/26/09 5th Place in the Big Ten

welll..... I'm back to school and finally caught up on my sleep from my busy weekend in Brookville Lake, Indiana. To make a long story short, it sucked. There were 25 mph winds all weekend which made the fishing hard. The jerkbait bite was not on and neither was a crankbait.

We prefished all day Saturday. The boat I was on, with robby and derrick, we probably caught about 10 pounds worth of fish all day.. which was pretty decent for the weather. We had a couple nice ones on and Robby hooked 2 2.5-3lbers on a jerkbait at the breast of the dam in the rifraf...

So the tourney was on Sunday and my boater, Steve Neal, had a Bullet with a 225hp Optimax on the back... holy buckets that thing was fast!!!

Anyways... we fished to the right of the last marina to start off. I caught a small largemouth right off the bat in the brush using a purple football head jig and a junebug beaver trailer. Jeremy also hooked up with a decent one but it spit it out. we ended up going back down through again and I landed another 12 inch largie using a zoom baby brushhog in watermellon red color.

We moved across and fished an island and i hooked my first striper ever! it was only about 10 or 11 inches long but it was cool regardless.

We ended up moving around alot but to no avail. I ended up catching 5 or 6 small largemouths on the day and Jeremy hooked up with 3 or 4. So him and I ended up not weighing in any fish. Another penn state boat didnt weigh wish either.

Another boat of ours ended up getting 2 small keepers for the weigh in so at least we didnt go home empty handed. Illinois found the right pattern and their whole team weighed in fish! I have no clue what they were using but it was working..
the results were:
Champion: Illinois 16.46 lbs; 2nd: Iowa 5.74 lbs; 3rd: Minnesota 5.68 lbs; 4th: Purdue 4.11 lbs; 5th: Penn State 3.27 lbs; 6th: Ohio State 2.80 lbs; 7th: Indiana 2.61 lbs; 8th: Michigan State 2.11 lbs; 9th: Michigan 0.00 lbs; DNC: Wisconsin, Northwestern. (collegiatebass.org.)

So all in all it was a really awesome experience... it was the first ( and probably the last) time i will ever fish in indiana but the people there treated us well and it was a cool lake to fish with a heckava lot of potential! we just hit it on a bad weekend. I bet you the spawn starts next week if the weather stays like this. without the wind it would've been a lot different of a tournamet. I love to fish the bottom flipping and jiggin but it was impossible to do when it was windy. (all of our fish were cuaght in the morning when there was no wind, or in the afternoon when we found a pocket that was out of the wind.)

I ended up hooking up with a 2.5-3lber under a log in one of the creeks but it spit me out halfway to the boat. Derrick also had on a 4 lber in the same situation.. it rapped him up under a log and didnt get a good hookset on it. if we would've hooked up with those fish Penn State would've probably placed second. but hey.. 5th place isnt bad considering the situation.

I'm heading out this weekend top Sayers so I'll post a report when i get back.

Catch ya later.

FLW College Fishing update 3/29/2008

Hey all!

We just had a Penn State Bass Fishing meeting on March 26th and talked about the upcoming tournaments. Our club will be fishing in the FLW college bass series starting this summer. Only 1 team per school can fish if 40 different schools sign up but the odds of that happening in the Northern Division arent very good. The first tourney in scheduled for June in the Potomac River. My partner Jeremy Lake and I are on the waiting list to get into that tournament. However, we are the number 1 team going to fish at 1000 Islands in New York. That tournament is scheduled for Sunday July 18th!

What is cool about these tourneys is that we get to fish with a pro who didnt make the final cut in the FLW Stren Series Tournament being held the day prior to our sunday tourney. We get to ride in their boat and they drive us around. We control the trolling motor and pick where we want to fish.

I am really looking forward to this because it gives Jeremy and I some big time exposure and with a win or even a top 5 finish in these tournaments we win money for our club and our school! Hopefully these tourneys could help me find a sponsorship as well!

Well I just figured I would fill everyone in about one of the many tourneys i will be fishing this summer

Tight Lines!

First Post

Hey I'm a little new to this blogging thing.. I am going to try and keep this as updated as possible to help me out and to help others out as well.. I am an avid hunter and fisherman and i try to spend all of my free time in the woods or out on my boat.

I guess i can start with a little bit about myself.... I am 21 years old and a senior at Penn State. I am finishing up in my degree in Kinesiology- Movement Science. Upon graduation (May 16, 2009. I will be attending Slippery Rock University to get my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. I start in Fall 2009 and will be a DPT by summer 2012.

I have been fishing since I could walk and have been hunting with my Dad, Jim, Since I was 10 years old. I have killed my share of Buck and Doe in my hunting career. I have been lucky enough to get at least 1 deer every year that I have hunted, and i believe this is a great accomplishment for hunting in Central Pennsylvania (WMU's 2E and 4D.) I have shot 2 wallhangers in my life and my dad has shot 4 (i will post pictures of these soon.)

I love to BASS fish, but i have trout fished for much much longer. I am a member of the Penn State Bass Fishing Team and am going to compete in multiple tournaments this summer.
