Big Update..... 7/29/2009

Hey guys.. again its been a while since i have posted on here.. I have been really busy as of late with work and fishing. I have some time on my hands so i will try and fill everybody in on some things..

The tournament at 1000 Islands was a blast. We got there on friday around 3 and got to watch the pros weigh in for day 2. There were some gigantic bags coming in with big bronzebacks caught on lake ontario. Unfortunately, in our tournament canada waters were off limits.

On tournament day we launched and hit the green marker buoy that i was told held alot of fish. We had a few bites on it but couldnt land anything... we then moved and fished some shoals and islands... i ended up catching a smallie that was 1/16 inch shy of being legal.. a few minutes later i hooked up with a 1.08lb smallie on a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed craw.

After no more bites we moved and fished some docks.. on my first cast to a dock...BAM i hooked up with a gigantic bass... I am not exaggerating.. this bass was 5lbs at least.. biggest bass of my life.... unfortunately this bass dove under the boat and spit the speed craw out... i was bummed.

My partner ended up catching a couple short fish as well and we ended up 31st in the tourney... it was a really rough day with very high winds and choppy water... some schools brang in some pretty good bags. if we couldve prefished it i believe we wouldve done alot better. it was fun though and i would jump for the opportunity to go back and give it another go around.... a big thanks to Joe Trinko for escorting us around in his awesome triton boat!

So the next weekend.. last friday (July 24th) I fished a PSU club tourney at the Potomac River. We launched out of Smallwood State Park at daybreak.. I was on a boat with a really awesome guy. His name is Tom. He took me to some really good places and we caught alot of fish. My goal for the day was to catch a limit and tom helped me do that. he showed me how to fish with some things i have never really done before. there was a crazy amount of weeds there and we fished mostly weed lines and pockets. We were throwin wacky rigged senkos, netbait paca craws, and zoom fish doctors. At the end of the day I had 5 largemouths weighing 6.65lbs. It was a really fun day and i cant wait to fish the potomac river again... maybe a BFL tournament or something.

My experience with the guys from down at the potomac was just phenomenal. These guys were all veterans and current members of the US Navy. They all work together and love to fish and help us out. Rick, the leader of the club is a former PSU alum and his guys really treat us well. Before the tourney even started they hooked us up with a goody bag from Bass Pro Shops. We had horney toads, brush hogs, spinnerbaits, hooks, rattle traps and senkos in the bag. It was awesome.

This weekend (august 1st) I have a club tournament at Sayers Dam. I cannot wait. I am going to prefish it hopefully friday but if not ill hit up my hot spots. Ill let ya know how I do.

Catch ya later

Update.. 7/11/ 2009 Kinzua Dam

Hey all... a little update here on how things have been going...

During the past few weeks i've done pretty decent... I got 2nd place at the lunker tourney the other night at curwensville lake with a 2.12lb largemouth...

yesterday i fished in a tournament for the first time at Kinzua Dam in Kane, PA.. i did pretty decent there too. i ended up in 5th place at that one all while fishing out of the back of a guys boat.. i ended up with 3 fish in the livewell at the end of the day....

It was a really slow morning for me after waking up at 2:15am to head up to Kinzua... The bite was slow in the morning... about an hour into the tourney the guy i was with hooked a 1.6lb smallie.. i had a nice one on not too long after that on a football jig with a rage craw trailer.. the smallie jumped twice and spit it out about ten feet from the boat... after that i didnt have a bite for a couple hours until 10am i switched from throwin senkos and lizards to dragging a shakey worm across the shallow rocks very very slow. that ended up with 4 smallmouth bass ( 3 legal ones) and 20 inch tiger musky in a 2 hour span. We had to fight to keep the bigger bass i caught alive... it mustve knicked its gill on something while i was reeling it in because it was swimmin sideways in the livewell for 2 hours..

it was pretty cool because i had 2 bass in the boat until my very last cast where i landed a little 12inch smallie right before we headed for the weigh ins!

so in all it was a pretty decent day... It was tough fishing and i ended up in 5th place with only 2.68lbs in 3 fish.... the winner caught 4 fish weighing 5.1 lbs....

Big tourney this weekend at 1000islands NY........ wish me luck!! you can watch the weigh ins live at http//www.collegefishing.com
